What is with the Grapefruit Warning on my Medication Bottle?
When we start taking a medication, it is common to take a shortcut and not read the full label or the paper that shows the list of side effects. Most people are worn out after jumping through all the hoops at the doctor’s office and pharmacy and just hurry up and take their new pills. This is something you do not want to do when it comes to those that contain a grapefruit or grapefruit juice warning.
This is because grapefruit changes how the body breaks down medication in the small intestine and liver which can lead to higher levels in your blood and more side effects. Only one mistake can last anywhere from 24 to 72 hours and sometimes the side effects can be serious.
